Type of Emergency, Treatment & Method of Treatment

The Burns treatment with cold water
Immerse in cold running water. Pat dry. Apply clean, dry dressing.

The Cuts treatment with normal water
Wash wound with soap and water. If bleeding is severe, have patient lie down with injured part raised. Stop bleeding by pressing cut with cold compress. When bleeding stops, paint with antiseptic dressing and bandage.

The Eye treatment with normal water
Tilt head and gently pour water into eye from nose out.

The Fainting treatment with cold water Stimulants
Have patient lie down with head lower than body or sit bent forward with head between the knees. If un-conscious, bath hands and face with cold water. Give smelling salts, one ounce of brandy, hot tea or coffee, or a tea-spoonful of spirits of ammonia. Administer liquids only when patient is conscious.

The Insect Bites treatment with Alcohol Calamine Lotion
For surface bites, rub with cotton dipped in alcohol. Coat with soothing lotions such as calamine.

The Nose Bleed treatment with cold water or ice
Seat patient up-right with head bent forward. Pinch nose. Apply cold compresses or ice directly to nose and face.

The Poison IVY treatment with Rubbing Alcohol, Yellow soap, Calamine Lotion Wash with water and soap, then alcohol. Cover with paste of common laundry soap and water or with calamine lotion. Allow lotion to dry on skin. Do not scratch as this causes poison to spread.

The Poisons Swallowed treatment with water milk
Check label of poison swallowed for antidote. See phone directory for number of nearest poison control center. Provide all information possible. Follow instructions given carefully.

The Sprains treatment with cold water or Ice
Elevate injured part and apply ice pack, cold compress or hold under, cold running water. Make patient rest until swelling and pain subside.

The Sun-burn treatment with Sun-burn lotion
Keep patient out of sun. Apply any available commercial sun-burn lotion.
